Post-Secondary:
Seniors,
We are planning on participating in "Apply Kansas".
It had originally been planned for Oct. 22, but I realized that there is a conflict. We will now be holding it Oct. 15 in the Media Center (announcements will be changed to reflect new date next week).
During this time you can come to the Media Center and Ms. Busch, myself, and your teachers will help you apply to the colleges of your choice. We will have information such as your transcripts, ACT scores, etc available to you. To make it completely official and submit fully you will need to have a form of payment ready, but you could always fill it out to that point in school and then complete it at home.
Please let me know if you have any additional information. Mrs. Behrens
Students please stop by or send Mrs. Behrens an email to set up a time to schedule college visits and discuss post-secondary plans (college or career).
Apply Kansas will be held Oct. 15 during AEP for all Seniors in the Media Center. Counselors will be available to help you apply to colleges of your choice.
October 3 there will be a college representative available in the Media Center during 2nd hour for students interested in K-State. If interested please plan on attending to ask valuable questions and get additional information.
Wichita State University: Black & Yellow Day events this fall. Black & Yellow Day is a program for high school juniors and seniors. These are all-day events on campus where students and guests have the chance to participate in sessions hosted by each academic college, tour campus and explore the hands-on learning opportunities available at WSU.
We have two Black & Yellow Day programs coming up on Friday, October 11 and Friday, October 25 and would love for your students to join us!
The event is $15 per student and $5 per guest and includes lunch in Shocker Hall Dining and a Shocker t-shirt.
SCC (Beatrice) Ag Day (October 15): Ag Day is an excellent opportunity for prospective students to experience the day-to-day activities that happen in SCC's Agriculture programs! This is the perfect opportunity to see SCC’s 900-acre farm in action! Please contact Mrs. Behrens if you are interested, she plans on taking a group of students if there is interest. What areas you will see:
Livestock – Cattle Nutrition Breakdown: See common feed ingredients used in the cattle feeding industry and learn about the nutritional benefits of each ingredient. Participants will see these ingredients mixed into a TMR ration and the cost of the ration will be discussed in detail.
Ag Business – Agricultural Quiz Bowl: Take part in our challenging agriculture trivia rotation. Students will be asked agriculturally based questions and have the opportunity to win prizes.
Agronomy – Field Demonstrations: Participate in hands-on field demonstrations. Students will complete plant population calculations, discuss current plant growth stages, determine seed planting depths, and determine current soil temperatures.
Precision – Soil Sampling: Soil sampling has become an invaluable tool in Precision Agriculture. Ag Day participants will get an opportunity to see firsthand how to take soil samples and properly collect them using the latest technology.
Horticulture & Turfgrass – Golf Course Maintenance: Come take a look at how golf course turf is managed. While it might look fake on TV, it takes a lot of effort to keep golf courses green and playable. Participants will learn behind the scenes maintenance practices and technology involved in maintaining high quality turf areas!
