Students from Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Friedrichs photography classes traveled to the Highland Community College Western Center in Baileyville, Kansas to look at their drone camera program in the agribusiness area. The instructor for this program is Eric Wright (a 2007 MHS Graduate). The program was very interesting. The students got to look at and practice flying two drones. One drone cost about $9000 and the other $1500. Eric Wright talked about how the drones were used in real estate photography, insurance and agribusiness.
We got feedback from students that went on the field trip!
Molly Heuer- We learned about what drones are used for and how they help with agricultural purposes. We also learned how to fly the drones and more about how they function. I liked being able to fly the drone and see what things drones can be used for. It was interesting to me that not only can you fly drones for fun you can use them for work. My favorite part was getting to fly the drone and learn how much they play a part in some jobs these days. I overall enjoyed learning about the drones. I was really nervous at first to fly the drone because I was worried that I would run it into the power lines or something like that.
Gerardo Arana- When we got there the instructor lead us to his room. Inside was about 4 or 5 students playing a tractor simulator on this huge set of 4 vertically adjusted flat screen televisions. Once seated the instructor started explaining to us what drones are and what they do. He let us try out his infrared scanner that detects heat signatures. Once we got that done he took us outside and let us fly the drones. I liked messing around with the infrared scanner and learning about drones. Flying the drones was of course my favorite part.
Chloe Voet- We learned about what kind of camera lens the drones have. We also got to fly the drones. I like how we got to take pictures on the big drone. My favorite part was flying the drones.
Jacob Richardson- It was a good field trip and I think everyone enjoyed it. I would have to say flying the drones was my favorite part . Overall it was great trip. I would do it again. I think I can say that all of us had a blast and none of us wanted to come back when we did.
