THE BLUE RIVER TRAIL

Trail

A new addition to Marysville, Kansas is the Blue River Rail Trail. Reaching about 13 miles, it starts in historical Marysville and will eventually continue north, up to the Nebraska border. The trail was built on retired railroad bed that has been "railbanked" for future events.

The trail hours are sunrise to sunset. On the west side, you will find the well-known Big Blue River. The smooth crushed limestone creates a perfect surface for walking, jogging and biking. Dogs are also allowed as long as they are on a leash. The scenery is breathtaking so taking a camera along could be in your favor. If you are a bird watcher, plant lover or like the wildlife, this is the right path for you!

In 2009, segment one of the trail was completed. For the most part, this section is shaded leaving a perfect shield from the harsh sun. Included in this segment is the signature covered bridge and a covered bench with a gorgeous view of the railroad bridge and river. Part two is not a finished surface yet but is opened. The plan is to finish the remainder of the trail in three separate segments at one-two year increments as funding becomes available. The finished product will connect the Blue River Rail Trail to Nebraska's Homestead Trail and more than 700 miles of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri trails.
